Just finished reading Raw Shark and as soon as I put it down wanted to see the movie, and hoped that it was already in the pipeline, just read your last blog regarding the movie and massively 'pumped' to see that Simon Beaufoy and Pete ‘In Bruges’ Czernin are to be involved in Raw Shark movie. Particularly as, In Bruges was the best film I have seen in a long, long time and Slumdog is my next must see (once it gets released in NZ). Thought it might be a good thread to start the casting ideas for the movie, so far, I have Clive Owen as the lead and Emily Deschanel as Scout, still trying to cast Clio, she is a tough one, has to be the right girl.... no Hollywood diva's please. Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on casting? and anyone else who has read the book. LOVED the book by the way!!! Can you tell???

This seems right up Knightley alley, but i don't think she's right for it. People would be seing "Kiera Knightley movie" rather than "Raw Shark Texts movie"

Willem Dafoe would make a great Ludovician.

ooohh, ed norton, yep, johnny depp, great choice, see where you are coming from with Janeane Garofalo but not sure about that one, and who would she play Clio or Scout? and the shark has GOT to be a really, really good shark 'no cheesy rubber' like Jaws but it has to be a real shark with a text skin???? not too CGI though, will totally ruin it. fussy much???? and sorry but a big NO to Miss Knightley, she pouts far too much for my liking, and too close to Pirates 'Hollywood' is Mr Depp was cast as Eric. Keep em coming though....!

Thought about this and here is my list... (some may have been mentioned previously but as the thread is now new may I be the first).

Eric is hard to place but Clive Owen or Ewan Mcgregor?
Eve Myles - Scout
Zooey Deschanel - Clio
Anette Badland - Dr Randle
Sir Ian Mckellen - Fidorus
Ewen Bremner - Mr Nobody

I rather think Scout and Clio should be played by the same actress.

Sir Ian Mckellen might make a good Fidorus, although I had pictured Fidorus as a somewhat shorter character you find lurking in seldom used areas of a library.

True, how about Richard Attenborough?? or Ben Kingsley?? Thought about Clio and Scout being one and the same but got the impression that Clio became more of an ideal that Scout closely resembled? (do you know what I mean).

Great thread guys, glad to see it resurrected after the origional was lost in Unspace Explorations-gate.

Anywhoo (and I'm doing something I said I'd never do here!):

I think I'd enjoy Tom Baker as Trey Fidorous, and how about Tilda Swinton for Dr Randle?

Swinton does do a marvelous Dr Randle.

As for Baker. Unfortunatly I have not seen any of his Dr Who work, but anyone who has been in both Dr Who and Blackadder is definitely ok with me. :D

Cannot believe I did not think of Tom Baker!! what about Sylvester Mcoy?? Tilda is brilliant (not to mention extremely alluring) but I am not sure about being Dr Randle..

See what you mean but Tilda just wasn't who I imagined as Dr Randle, (I pictured a large homely women??) Just out of interest did you see that clip before you read the book?

No. I had read the book first. I think it was more of Swinton's delivery and demeanor that nailed it for me.

Wow, I was totally kidding.

Those were terrible ideas.

I think I should be cast as Eric.

There. I said it.
